Hunsinger is currently the sound
artist for architects Douglas Garofalo and Randy Kober's iN.fOrmant system
installation at the Museum of Contemporary Art. For iN.fOrmant system,
she designed an interactive environment using light sensors to trigger
sounds from six independent speakers.
On February 6th, Hunsinger performed at the Museum, playing chinese oboe,
shenai, english horn and oboe with bassist Tatsu Aoki and percussionist
Davu Seru. In addition to using the iN.fOrmant system as a stage, the
musicians played the structure itself. The installation piece proved to
be a versatile and resonant percussion/string instrument which all three
players used in their improvisation. iN.fOrmant system is made from triangular
zinc panels, metal rods, and sheets of steel and plastic, all held taut
by 99 suspension wires, which Hunsinger and Seru tuned before the concert.
